Some Things On My Heart

Hello HLBC Family,

Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve updated this blog, but here goes. I want this to be a place where you can read my musings about current events and other interesting and pertinent happenings and share your comments as well. If you have any questions for me—this would be a good place to post them and we can chat about them. Please be sure to keep your comments and opinions G-rated. Check in each week to see what’s on my mind—it may be on yours too!

Congratulations to Hank and Sherry Osborn on the arrival of Piper Rose—7 lbs. 13 oz. She is healthy and absolutely beautiful. Glad to know that Mom and Dad are doing great as well.

Please don’t forget that we have the Billy Graham My Hope training again this Sunday night. Tony will be training us on how to be a “Matthew” and invite others of our families and friends who are lost, to a party in our homes in the fall, where we will get an opportunity to share our faith with them. We need lots of Matthews, so please come and let’s learn together. We start at 6:00 PM.

I hope you have been blessed and changed by the end-times series I’ve been preaching entitled, “Where Do We Go From Here.” I certainly have been blessed and changed as I have prepared those messages. We’ve looked closely at the rapture, the antichrist, the tribulation and the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. In the coming weeks I want us to look at the Judgments of God that are to take place in our future. If you have missed any and would like a CD, let Travis Barwick know and he will get you what you need.

What a great day at the lake we had a couple of weeks ago. That is definitely a keeper!! We plan to put that on our calendar each year. We had 225 in attendance and we baptize 58. PRAISE THE LORD!!

Our men’s ministry had a great kickoff this Saturday past. Good attendance and also great suggestions and action plans to attend to some needs in our congregation regarding repairs etc. thanks men for being the church.

A lot of things are approaching as we get into the fall. One of which is our new format to facilitate Discipleship classes. Tony and I are excited about this. Beginning in September, we will be offering 5 classes that you can get in to grow deeper in the Word of God and or your walk with the Lord. The classes and classrooms will be announced soon so you can begin arranging your schedule to attend. They will be held on Sunday afternoon from 4:30 to 5:45 PM. Of course our evening Worship Service will begin at the same – 6:00 PM.
I believe in my heart that this area of discipleship is vitally important to the future and growth of our church. Each of us should be growing daily in our relationship to Jesus. These classes will help you do just that. They will be fun and useful and of course biblically based. Does the brand of faith you live by produce the kinds of results in your life that you read about in the biblical stories of men and women of faith? Chances are, not even close. But it doesn’t have to stay that way. We want to help you think through your own journey of faith, wherever you are, and then discover whatever God wants to do in and through you and His church at Harbour Lake. God’s power within you is only potential until you convert it into strength; and you do that by faith and action. And you have everything that you need in order to do everything God has called you to do.

As Pastors we can see sometimes when someone begins to move away from the Lord and the church and we become concerned for them. After all these are the sheep that God has placed in our care until He returns or He moves us elsewhere. And we become very concerned that getting back into the world—listening to the wrong voices—beginning a slow waltz with the enemy that becomes a jitterbug at the end—will lure you away from the Precious One who loved you enough to pay the penalty for your sin and offer you a paradise in heaven for eternity. But it’s not so much that we’re afraid that you will ruin your life, but we fear something far worse—that you will waste your life. Remember—this life is but a vapor the bible says—brief at best and then it’s over. But eternity is the real concern we should have. What have we done with our lives that will count for all eternity. Let’s not waste our lives. Let’s invest them in Kingdom work. To do that we must be ever growing in our relationship to Christ Jesus; identifying things day by day that He is not pleased with and throwing them off. And becoming the kind of person that glorifies Him with our obedience in every area of our lives. That is why we need to be discipled. I hope you will pick a class to get started in on Sunday afternoons in the fall, and when that one is over, join another one. We will keep adding new and challenging classes to the list of choices.

In the fall as well, we will be going to a more formal (not in the legal, pharisaical sense), evening worship service. By that I mean that it will resemble our morning worship more. And whatever series I’m preaching in the mornings, I will continue in the evening service. There will be special solos and choir singing as well. We will also worship in giving in the evening services.

HOW ‘BOUT DEM BRAVES?????!!!!!!!! Great year so far. Now If we can hold out until the playoffs.

And can you smell it—Carolina football is just around the corner. Can we make it 5 years in a row of bragging rights over the Tigers. Let me think……OF COURSE WE CAN AND WILL!!!!!!!

May I leave you with a quote I read a few days ago:
“Maybe one day we’ll see that the greatest setbacks in our lives were actually the greatest setups to seeing God’s glory in places we didn’t even know to look.” ----- How true that is!!!

Consumed By His Call,
Pastor Jimmy Fuller
